First Home Buyers
The First Home Buyer Scheme provides grants of up to $7,000.00 to eligible persons who are buying or building their first home. The grant applies only to residential dwellings and does not apply to vacant land. The grant is not means tested.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be a natural person and at least 18 years of age.
- Neither the applicant nor their spouse or partner can have owned a home prior to 1 July 2000, either jointly, separately or with some other persons.
- Neither the applicant nor their spouse or partner have purchased a home on or after 1 July 2000 and occupied that home. Note that any property owned prior to 1 July 2000 need not have been the applicants principal residence in order to render the applicant ineligible for a grant.
- Joint applicants will be restricted to a single application for a single property and only one grant will be made.
Applications
If you are borrowing part of your purchase price through a financial institution, that financial institution will usually prepare and lodge your application on your behalf. The grant will be paid to your financial institution prior to completion of your purchase. If you are not borrowing funds from a financial institution then we can lodge the application on your behalf.
Occupation of Home
In order to comply with the residency requirement you and all other applicants must start living in the home as your principal residence within 12 months of completing your purchase and must live in the home for a continuous period of six months.
